Marc J. Sharpe is the founder and chairman of The Family Office Association (TFOA), a peer network of single family offices founded in 2007. The group is for education, networking, pooling diligence, selective co-investment, and a resource for family offices around the world to share ideas, deal flow and best practice. TFOA delivers world-class educational content, unique networking opportunities, and exceptional thought leadership to a highly curated network of the world’s largest and wealthiest families.
Mr. Sharpe’s investing career spans more than 30 years. He has held positions in investment management for Goldman Sachs and investment banking for Wasserstein Perella. In addition, he founded a venture capital incubator in the UK and worked on strategic initiatives for Dell Inc. In 2006, Mr. Sharpe took a position as CIO for a single-family office serving a multigenerational family in Houston, TX. After profitably navigating through the 2008 market crash, he subsequently joined an international private equity firm specializing in control investments. Marc has also served as a managing director for a private investment firm providing alternative asset strategies to ultra-high net worth families and he is the founder of IVY EB-5 which is responsible for building strategic partnerships and investment opportunities throughout the world via the United States’ EB-5 investment visa program.
Mr. Sharpe currently serves as a Strategic Advisor to Group RMC, Mercury Fund, and Satori Capital, sourcing private equity and real estate investments and working with investors on alternative investment strategies. He also teaches an MBA class on “The Entrepreneurial Family Office” as an Adjunct Professor at Rice University and Southern Methodist University. Mr. Sharpe holds an M.A. from Cambridge University, a M.Phil. from Oxford University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is active in the community and has served on the Board of the Holocaust Museum Houston, the HBS Angels, and on the Investment Committee for two Texas-based foundations.
